G4U is a Christian club for secondary school aged children (11-16) that attend special schools. The club runs on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30-5pm and costs £1.50pp. We have a variety of activities including fun games, art &craft, songs & worship, sports, food and drink, board games, and we also take the children on trips and weekends away. The club is designed to be an informal way of introducing the children to the Christian faith in a fun and relaxed environment.
Funky Friday is a club for children in Primary schools aged 8-11 (years 4-6). It is held at the YMCA on Fridays between 3.30-5.15pm. The cost is £1.20pp. We provide a range of sports in our weekly programme, including football, basketball, Unihoc, Dodgeball and badminton, as well as fun team games in the sports hall. There is art and craft, as well as computer games and a pool table. We go on trips every 4 weeks, including bowling, swimming and ice skating. We also have a tuck shop where children can buy sweets and drinks.
Kick Back is a club for those in secondary school aged 11-16 (Yrs 7-11), from 6-7.30pm and is £1.20pp. The club is more laid back and young people can choose what they would like to do- either sports and games in the sports hall, play pool in the canteen, or sit in the u-bend to chat, read magazines and play computer games. We also have the tuck shop open for young people throughout the night. We have more trips than the Funky Friday club, including cinema, and also weekends away with other YMCA’s in the country. We also have a core group of young people that are helping with the planning and development of the U-bend room, including funding bids, activities we provide for them, and equipment that is used.
Drop In is on a Tuesday night between 6-7.15pm and is a free, informal time where young people in secondary school can ‘drop in’ to chat to us about issues/ problems/ life etc, play pool for free, have a drink and play cards. It is aimed at older teenagers who do not always find the youth club appealing. It is aimed at being developed once the U-bend is converted into the Youth room.
Our holiday club provides childcare during the school holidays. The club is split in to two different age groups 5-7 years old and 8-13 years old. In our holiday club we run many different activities including, football, basketball, badminton, team games and many more sports we also offer climbing and swimming during the summer holidays. In each week we done offer at least one trip, the trips change in each holiday, we take them to places such as, Woodlands, Paignton zoo and Crealy. We also have an arts + craft room where the children can make models from junk or paint pictures. We also have a quiet room where they can play on the playstation, watch a DVD or even play board games.
We are open in the School holidays for children aged from 5 to 15 our opening times are from 8am until 6pm each day. Your child/children will be organised into age related groups, where they can play in our large facility, where we have both indoor and outdoor play areas. We offer a variety of activities such as football, basketball, badminton, dodgeball, arts and crafts, electronic games, board games, trips and swimming in our outdoor pool in the summer. The cost is from £7.00 a day, we offer a discount for those who book a full week. All of our staff are Enhanced CRB checked, experienced and hold qualifications in either sport or childcare. We are registered with Ofsted our registration number is 117145, in our last inspection we gained the highest mark possible. We currently are contracted to run 12 school fitness sessions a week, promoting health and fitness in Hyde Park primary school. In each session at Hyde Park primary there will be an average of 30 children in each session. We also run a fun fitness session called Fit Club, which has been developed to encourage health and fitness through fun games. This is run at Montpellier Primary School. There are two sessions at Montpellier primary of which there is an average of 25 children in each session. We have a contract with Plymouth High School for girls secondary where for two days a week we teach Team combat, Circuits and Body jam to years 10 and year 11. Also we run two after school clubs at our centre. We run a fit club session, which is for 5-7 years old, and a Team combat session, which is for 8-11 years old. Our C-Zone session is a gym-based session, which gives young people, aged between 8-16 years old a fully monitored gym activity. Each young person will have to have an induction before they can use the gym.
We have 5 football coaching sessions a week. We have two sessions on a Monday evening, one session on a Wednesday evening and two sessions on a Saturday morning. We have around 100-120 children on all the courses, the sessions are split into two age groups a 5-7 and an 8-11. Each coaching course is run through the school term time.
We have 12 YMCA Kitto Parkway boys football teams and we also have 2 girls football teams, all these teams play in the Devon Junior and Minor leagues. We have around 200 eight to eighteen year olds registered to the YMCA Kitto Parkway football club. We have a very close link with the senior side Plymouth Parkway F.C. We have two 5 a side leagues, one is under 10’s which takes place on a Friday evening and an under 12’s which takes place on a Monday evening. We have around 80 children who take part in our 5 a side leagues.
We currently hold both FA Charter standard and Community Club standard.
Plymouth YMCA includes within its provision, young people and adults with many different needs such as Autism, ADHD and people with emotional and behavioral needs. Some of our partners Connexions, Plymouth Inclusion Childcare services, the football association, Plymouth city Council and Social Services.
Ys ones are a group for the over 60s where they get a chance to talk with their friends and we take them on trips such as, boat trips, theatre and Trago Mills.
Arthritis/stroke class is a fitness class for elderly, helping them to lessen pain and to live a more active life.
Dads and lads is a session for dads and their son to play lots of different sports together, and to promote relationships through playing sports.
Badminton Club is a club where children aged 11 to 16 can play games and learn how to play badminton and the rules of the game.
Birthday Party’s are for children aged 0-12 years old. We have tumble teds party’s which we use the soft play equipment, this party is for ages 0-5 years old. For the 5-12 years old we have to different parties, one is the multi activity party, which involves lots of different games such as football, basketball, uni-hoc and parachute. We also run a football party, which involves lots of fun football games and matches.
Basketball Coaching is run for 8-11 years old and 11-16 this session includes basketball coaching, fun games and matches. For some of the older children there would be a possibility of joining a basketball team.
All activity parties cost £50.00 for one hour of activity, including all equipment and an experienced leader to run your party.
Basketball Coaching is run on Thursdays between 4-6pm, and is split into 2 age groups- 8-11’s (Primary school) 4-5pm, and 11-16’s (Secondary school) 5-6pm.
The coaching is run by a level 2 qualified coach, and is aimed at those who are either new to the game or have limited experience, as well as those who play for their school team. We provide warm ups, fun games, fitness, drills and general teamwork involved in many sports.
Any level of ability welcome and for those more experienced can be put in touch with teams in Plymouth who play in leagues.
P&D Basketball League is for 16’s- 50+, and runs on Thursday evenings at YMCA, and Friday evenings at Civil service. At Present there are 9 teams in the league of mixed ability, with school teachers/ sixth formers/ University students/ Police/ middle aged all playing. It is a fun, competitive league which runs from October through to April, with most teams training throughout the summer.
