Become a Volunteer at Plymouth YMCA

Looking for ways to make a difference- to your life and the lives of others?
Wanting to add more challenge to your life?
Searching for valuable work experience?

Being a Volunteer can be a life changing experience for you and for the lives you touch along the way. Here are some of the reasons people volunteer their time and services:

Students – course related work or to gain work experience
Between jobs – staying busy while between jobs
Retirement – apply your underused expertise to make a real difference
Good Will – volunteering can be a rewarding and often life changing experience and many volunteers start their journey with purely good will.

Why not give a couple of hours of your time assisting Plymouth YMCA to deliver programmes and services for your local community, particularly young people and those most in need.

There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer with Plymouth YMCA:

  • Organising projects
  • Leading projects
  • Coaching
  • Tutoring
  • Fundraising
  • Assisting any one of our many programmes and services.

Here are a few examples of past and current volunteering opportunities:

  • Football Coaching
  • Nursery Assistants
  • Data Entry
  • Gym Instructor
  • Youth Worker
  • Fundraiser
  • Guest Speaker

“I laughed when they first asked me because the thought of it seemed so absurd but it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. I’m fitter than I was, my shyness has gone and I’m a much more confident person. I’m really motivated with the aim to inspire other volunteers and engage clients in healthy living activities.”
Rob Barry, Gym Instructor Volunteer

“The YMCA is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Therefore, any volunteers would be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check and 2 references that will include specific enquiries about the applicant’s background in relation to safeguarding.”

Contact Plymouth YMCA today to find out more about the volunteering opportunities available to you.
