Plymouth YMCA has two thriving community based gym, one at the Kitto Centre and the other at Torpoint and Rame Community Sports Centre. We cater for a spectrum of clients from the casual person who wishes to "get fit and tone up", to people who have been referred by their General Practitioner because of a medical condition. We provide a range of Group Fitness classes that cater for all abilities and age ranges. We also offer personal training, a running club and advice on healthy eating,
Plymouth YMCA first opened their studio doors in 1989 as Body & Soul Workouts and have been offering a wide and varied programme of exercise classes ever since. Since then we have grown our programmes based on current trend but more importantly customer wants and needs.
Our current programme includes Aerobics, Step, Circuit Training, Group Indoor Cycling, Pilates, five of the Body Training Systems: BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyStep, BodyJam and BodyBalance, and more specialist classes such as our popular senior sessions.
We offer both daytime classes with a creche and evening classes. Our classes are led by our team of fully qualified instructors who know how to provide a fun, safe and effective workout. So whatever your fitness goals you should be able to find a session to suit motivate and invigorate you.

The Plymouth YMCA’s GP Referral Exercise Scheme provides individualised, structured exercise programmes in a supervised gym environment for those patients effected by clinical conditions. Members of the scheme range in age, ability and fitness levels. Patients referred to the scheme by their GP include those suffering from Diabetes, Obesity, Arthritis, Back pain, Depression, Cancer and other medical conditions.
Since its conception over 10 years ago local surgeries have referred some 2000 patients onto the Scheme.

back to topThe Cardio-Fit Club is a community based Phase IV cardiac rehabilitation programme. It is usually a graduation from a clinically led Phase III programme; (also run at the Kitto centre) or the next step following hospital treatment, or consultation with a GP or Cardiologist.
All Cardio-Fit Club staff hold advanced level III fitness qualifications, are certified by the British Association for Cardiac Rehabilitation, are members of the Register of Exercise Professionals, possess Basic Life Support and Automated Emergency Defibrillator certifications.
