CLIMBING AT PLYMOUTH YMCA

The Plymouth YMCA has been working in the city and district since 1848.  In that time it has always striven to respond to the needs of the community in which it is placed.  To that end the Plymouth YMCA has always tried to offer the widest range of facilities and activities at the best possible price.

One of the main motivations behind the work of the YMCA is to develop activities, which stimulate and challenge its members to a sense of personal achievement in an environment that is safe and yet still challenging.

The Climbing Wall, situated in the Kitto Centre’s Sports Hall Two, meets all these aims and we hope that many of you will live up to the challenge.

The wall is a featured leading wall with a pulley top rope system.

There are in-situ ropes and mambas on some routes.

Harness, Helmet & Belay Device can all be hired for a small fee.

Only chalk balls are to be used on the wall.

Ancillary facilities are available, i.e. toilets, coffee bar etc.

ROUTES

We have thirteen climbs with over thirty routes from easy to E6 6C.  Some of the routes are featured but most are bolt on holds.  The routes are changed regularly depending on the popularity and customer demand.

The wall is 8 metres high by 11 metres wide and has a slab/chimney/arête/cone and overhang areas. There are Mallions with mambas in situ for those that wish to lead climb. These are on a range of routes including some easy routes for beginners and more difficult routes for the more experienced climbers.
